Stand Up and Paddle at Twin Lakes this Weekend
This Saturday and Sunday, September 22 & 23, Twin Lakes will be hosting a Stand Up Paddle (SUP) Rally at the White Star Campground.
The aspen’s are exploding with color, and fall is quickly approaching. Twin Lakes is one of the most beautiful destination paddling spots in the state any time of year, and especially in the fall when the aspens are golden yellow.
Organizers for this weekend’s event are planning a happy hour paddle to Interlocken on Saturday evening (mellow happy hour float for 1.5 hours), and then a full lake paddle on Sunday morning. Come for just one event, or camp at Whitestar Campground and take part in both events.
The popularity of the modern sport of SUP’ing has its origin in the Hawaiian Islands. In the early 1960s, the beach boys of Waikiki would stand on their long boards, and paddle to the distant outside reef break using outrigger paddles. In spite of its surfing origin the sport is gaining in popularity even in more protected coastal waters and lakes, like Twin Lakes. The sport benefits athletes with a strong “core” workout (source: Wikipedia).
