St Vincent Hospital Asks Community To Be Involved

St. Vincent Hospital Board of Directors, and staff,  Quorum Health Resources, area medical providers and members of the community met on Saturday, September 15, for a hospital strategy session.

Bill Carder of QHR addresses participants in the hospital strategy session held Sept. 15 in Leadville.

“Our goal was to begin developing a strategic plan for three to five years and to create a map for our future success. We had a very productive and positive day. The level of engagement from our participants, leadership, Board members and community was up to with the task at hand,” said Rhonda Duncan, Interim CEO of St. Vincent Hospital.

Bill Carder, Associate Vice President of QHR, began the session by presenting facts and in depth research in regard to market share, challenges and opportunities for St. Vincent Hospital. When Carder’s presentation concluded participants broke into four discussion groups which were:  the hospital Board; community members; hospital staff; and Leadville medical providers.

Each group was asked to list major problems for the hospital, solutions, and three recommendations. Main areas of concern from the groups were communication, community perception and training and retention of workforce. The comments from the discussion groups were considered by the Board in the afternoon session and will be an integral part of their planning in the later part of 2012.

“This was a very beneficial process. I was glad to see the community invited to the session in a forum where we were able to give input. I feel that St. Vincent Hospital offered complete honesty and transparency and it was a great step forward for the future,” said Judy Tyson of Lake County Public Health Agency. Tyson was part of the community discussion group.

The St. Vincent Hospital Board and leadership team plan to finalize a strategic plan for implementation in 2013.
