TP Night Jam = Fun in the Dark!
Check the batteries in your headlamp and then head on over to Tennessee Pass Night Jam at the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center this Saturday, Feb. 2. It’s a fast bike race in the dark on a groomed nordic track through the trees at Ski Cooper.
Registration and check-in begin at 5 p.m. at the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center with the race starting at 7 p.m.. Cost is $20.00 with proceeds going to the Cloud City Wheelers advocacy efforts.
The Tennessee Pass Night Jam is one of four unique and exciting races that are part of the Leadville Winter Mountain Bike Race Series held in and around Leadville, Colo. Utilizing groomed nordic ski trails and snowmobile trails, these races are a great way to keep riding and racing during the winter ski season. And there’s usually all kinds of tasty food and beverages to top off the Awards Ceremony.
Winter Traithlon This Saturday at CMC
This Saturday, Feb. 2, many of the top athletes in the region, seeking to push the boundaries of endurance to the point exhaustion, will be gathering in Leadville for The Arrowhead Alpine Club Winter Triathlon. The race takes place at the Leadville’s Colorado Mountain College (CMC) Timberline Campus starting at 10 a.m. and will consist of a 5K snowshoe, 10K snow-bike and an 8K skate-ski. This event will be open to both individual competitors and teams.
This is the fifth and final event of the 2012/2013 Pedal Power Snowshoe Adventure Series. The non-profit series, now in it’s 17th season, benefits local charities in Eagle and Lake Counties.
With a reputation for creating courses that present tactical as well as physical challenges, the Pedal Power Snowshoe Series, marks its third year as host of the North American Winter Triathlon Championships. Previous triathlons have seen steadily increasing numbers and rank among the premier events on the state’s winter competition calendar.
Multi-discipline winter endurance events have become the latest vehicle for athletes seeking ever-greater tests of their abilities. The snowshoe leg of the event takes place on off-piste, single track, with the bike and ski portions playing out on groomed Nordic-track. This event should provide just the challenge competitors are seeking to test their mettle.
New this year will be a Winter Tri “Team Challenge” specifically designed to encourage and recognize team efforts within the dicipline. The Team Challenge winners will be eligible for special prizes based upon the combined times of each team’s participants.
Racers should meet at the CMC Timberline Campus, just south of town, 1 hour before the start to leave time to register and coordinate equipment. It is suggested that participants call Pedal Power in advance at 970-845-0931 for directions.
Pre-registration for this event is $35 for individuals and $30 per person for teams. Racers can register on the day of the race for $45 for individuals and $30 per person for teams.
