Hospital Initiates Survey Program
St. Vincent Hospital has hired an independent research company, HealthStream Research, to interview a random sample of patients treated at the hospital. If you have recently been admitted to the hospital or visited the emergency room you may be called to answer questions about your care experience. If HealthStream Research calls you, the number that will appear is 301.575.9366.
As a survey participant, please be assured that your responses will be kept completely confidential and will only be shared with the hospital for the purpose of improving the quality of patient care. Your identity will not be revealed to the hospital as a participant, unless you request HealthStream Research to do so.
The surveys conducted by HealthStream Research are known in the healthcare industry as HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, pronounced “H-caps”).
The uses for HCAHP surveys are 2 fold. First, the survey is designed to produce data about patients’ perspectives of care that allow objective and meaningful comparisons of hospitals on topics that are important to consumers. Second, the survey results are reported publicly, on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) website for anyone who wants to learn more about St. Vincent Hospital and how it compares to other hospitals.
“We are excited to partner with Health Stream Research to meet regulatory compliance of patient satisfaction reporting. Our hope is to gain feedback from our patients surrounding their experience so that we can immediately address our patient satisfaction goals,” said Jim Clavadetscher, the new Director of Quality and Compliance at St. Vincent Hospital. Clavadetscher began work at St. Vincent Hospital on February 6.
St. Vincent Hospital expects the telephone surveys to begin after February 15 and reporting to CMS to take place within six months or when an adequate number of respondents have been reached. If you have any questions about the surveys you may call St. Vincent Hospital and ask for Karen Rinehart at 719-486-7135.
