Enrich A Local Student’s Life, with A Good Time!

On Saturday, March 9, the Lake County Middle School/High School 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) will be having a fundraiser dinner and silent auction at the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center.  All proceeds of this event will be used to continue programming for middle school and high school youth next fall.

The LCMS/LCHS 21st CCLC is a federal grant received by the Lake County School District to provide academic and enrichment programs after school and in the summer for 5th – 12th grade students and their families.  The grant is in its fourth year and has served over 400 students in Lake County each year.  This year an average of 66 students per day are attending programs such as homework help and tutoring, ceramics, woodshop, photography, video, sign language, art, fitness, drama, dance, soccer, cooking, guitar, piano, and much more.  Daily nutritional snacks are provided by Food Bank of the Rockies and transportation is provided in the evening.

Many local organizations collaborate to make these programs possible including Full Circle of Lake County, Lake County Build a Generation, Lake County Recreation Department, High Mountain Institute, Colorado Mountain College, and West Central Mental Health.

However, funding is reduced each year and the community must figure out how to continue programming.  Next year will be the last year of receiving grant funding and we need $30,000 to continue the number of programs that we currently offer.   Last year’s fundraiser raised enough money for 6 weeks of day camps during the summer!

Please come support these programs next Saturday March 9 from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center.  Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children (children under 5 are free).  You can purchase your tickets at the Lake County Middle School office or by calling Susan Fishman at 719-293-0115.  This will be a fun-filled and beneficial evening.  If you can’t make it, you can also help by contributing a silent auction item or by making a donation.
