Hey LCHS Seniors, It’s Scholarship Time!
Did you know that last year $230,000 worth of scholarships were awarded to Lake County High School Seniors last year? Impressive! So don’t let finances to stand in the way of furthering you/your child’s education.
While Spring Break is on the minds of most local students, for graduating LCHS seniors it’s time to start applying for scholarships. There are lots of opportunities to get help with the cost of college, or trade/vocational schools. Catholic Daughters Scholarships
The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Francis Xavier Cabrini #1544of Leadville, is announcing two $500 scholarships open to any graduating senior in Lake County. The criteria for this scholarship will be based on 2.7 or higher GPA, financial need, proof of college acceptance, community service, school and extracurricular activities, 2 letters of recommendation (One must be from a teacher), a 500 minimum word inspirational essay, and a statement explaining why you feel you are most qualified to receive this scholarship. Turn in the completed application to the LCHS Guidance Office no later than April 1, 2013. Applications will be reviewed by the CDS Scholarship Committee. The recipient will be notified no later than April 30, 2013. The scholarship, paid to the recipient, will be presented during Class Day on May 23, 2013.
Vonnie’s Voice is proud to announce that scholarships in the amount of $1500 will be given to two Lake County High School students. Named in honor of Kindergarten Teacher Vonnie Flores, preference will go to students majoring in education at a post-secondary institution. Please visit the high school counselor’s office or VonniesVoice.org to obtain an application. The deadline to apply is Saturday, April 27, 2013 by 5 p.m. Eligibility requirements:
• Applicants must be 2013 graduating LCHS seniors going on to study at a college or
• Acceptance letter from the college or university you plan on attending.
• Student must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 (“B”).
• Deadline: Saturday, April 27, 2013 by 5 p.m.
• Preference to those majoring in education at a post-secondary institution.
Leadville Legacy Scholarship
The Leadville Legacy is currently accepting applications for its 2013 Leadville Legacy Scholarships. Lake County High School students from the Class of 2013 are eligible. The $1,000 grants are available to graduating seniors planning on continuing their education. Students must submit a letter of acceptance from a college, university or technological school with the application by the scholarship deadline.
The Legacy’s Scholarship Program encourages every Lake County High School graduate to explore and continue their education past the high school level. Contact the Lake County High School Guidance Counselor Julie McMurry for an application.
Vail Resorts Ski Area Operations Diversity Scholarship
This scholarship is geared toward students enrolled or planning to enroll in the Colorado Mountain College Timberline Campus, Leadville, Ski Area Operations Program. Students must be high school graduates enrolled or planning to enroll in the CMC Associates Degree program. Preference will be given to under-served populations. Applicants must be classified as in-district (including Leadville/Lake County) for the purpose of CMC tuition. Successful applicants must document a minimum high school GPA of at least 2.0; returning students must demonstrate a GPA of at least 2.5 by way of transcripts from CMC or other institutions attended. Financial need will be a factor in recipient selection. This scholarship awards full cost of tuition, books, and fees for first and second year – approximately $2325 per year renewable up for two years contingent on GPA of at least 2.5 during the academic year. The deadline is July 1, 2013 with scholarship recipient announcement by July 15, 2012.
