Saturday’s K-9 Fun Walk in Memoriam of Karen Lundell
There’s a few changes to this year’s K-9 Fun Walk to be held in Leadville this Saturday, June 8. The fun race is a fundraiser for the Friends of Lake County Public Library (FLCPL).Karen Lundell
It (the event) was her baby,” said Judy Hess, President of the FLCPL about renaming the event as the Karen Lundell Memorial K-9 Fun Walk.
Lundell was not only a member of the FLCPL board, but also an animal lover, combing the two passions in 2008 to create the “fun” raiser. This is year five and it’s the board’s hope that the event will continue year after year in Lundell’s honor.
The second change to the race this year is it’s location (start). Racers and their dogs should gather at the Lake County Animal Shelter located at 428 E. 12th Street, next to the Mineral Belt Trail (MBT).
Lastly, while the distance of the race course has not changed, its route has changed. In a new out and back format, the race will begin at 9 a.m. on the Mineral Belt Trail at the Animal Shelter juncture.
“We have lots of great prizes,” said Hess, encouraging everyone to come out to have fun, support local literacy programs and pay tribute to a longtime Leadville giver, Karen Lundell.
Advance registration is $10, day of is $12. All proceeds will benefit the FLCPL and all of their great local programs. For more information contact Judy Hess at 719-293-1519.
