Mt Massive Golf Tournaments
Last weekend’s golf tournament extravaganza resulted in a new Mt. Massive Golf Course Club Champion, breaking a six-year reign. When the score cards were tallied it was Darryl Flores who took the 2013 Club Championship. Leadville’s Deb McCall took first place for the ladies in both the Club Championship and Lake County Open. The overall winner for the Open has Justin Vigil.Deb McCall (l) took first place in BOTH the Women’s Club Championship and Lake County Open! Darryl Flores (c) reclaimed the Club Championship and Justin Vigil (r) placed first in the Lake County Open held at Mt. Massive Golf Course in Leadville.
Club Championship/Lake County Open
This two day tournament started on Saturday, August 24 with the first nine holes and wrapped up on Sunday with the next nine, which also acted as the official Lake County Open golf tournament. Both are local favorites with nearly 45 players making the rounds on day two. In the end, it was Darryl Flores who will have his name engraved for top honors on the club’s trophy as Champion.

Deb McCall was somewhat of the triple crown winner over the tournament weekend. Not only did she claim top honors in the Women’s Club Champioship and Lake County Open, but her Team also placed first in the Pirate Scramble, played Friday night. McCall’s other teammates included husband Jim and Cheryl & Roger Johnson. Wow! That’s quite a weekend, Deb!

The Pirate ScramblePirate Smitty’s team placed 2nd in The MMGC Pirate Scramble
The three day weekend of tournaments at America’s Highest Golf Course kicked off Friday night with The Pirate Scramble, a fun evening of scramble golf where by players on teams tee off from one hole to place on the green of the a different hole.
The pirate-themed event was well-attended, with the storm clouds moving out, providing good weather for the 11 teams. The group who took top swashbuckling honors was Team: Deb & Jim McCall and Cheryl & Roger Johnson. Second place came in at a tie and after a walk the plank chip-off it was Team: Pirate Dave Smitty, Donnie Koucherik and Jim Montano who took the silver – Aye Matie!
