Celebrate New Pavilion at Hatchery on Saturday
“Now that the government is back to work, the board of the Friends of the Leadville National Fish Hatchery (FLNFH) would like to, once again, invite our members and the public to celebrate the completion of the covered pavilion on the picnic grounds of the hatchery,” stated Judy Cole, President, FLNFH.
The new date for the celebration is this Saturday, Oct. 26, at noon. Organizers are asking attendees to bring their own picnic lunch and the Friends will provide the makings for hot chocolate and hot apple cider, plus a cake.
This new pavilion is really something to celebrate, something to take pride in. The $39,000 facility was made possible by the efforts of the FLNFH, as well as a $27,000 Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Foundation, Climax Area Community Investment Fund grant.
And the project was done First Class, Top Notch. That’s thanks in large part to Hatchery Manager Ed Stege and his team of workers and volunteers. It’s no surprise that Leadville is a town full of fine craftspeople and the new pavilion shows those skills and talents. From the majestic beam work to the hard-to-look-away-from pine beetle wood ceiling, the subtle details make the entire structure more like a sculpture in the middle of the woods than a facility.
It also blends in nicely to the wooded area adjacent to the picnic and play grounds with Evergreen Lakes in the background. For anyone who has ever been to a wedding, reunion or other group event up at the Evergreen Lakes picnic area, this new pavilion is a welcome woodsy surprise.
Parking for Saturday’s celebration is available in the lower lots at the Fish Hatchery and you can walk up from there. If you need assistance, drive up to the picnic area for drop off. The Leadville National Fish Hatchery is located at is 2846 Hwy 300.
