School Board Schedules 2nd Reconfiguration Meeting
The Lake County School District has scheduled a second Question & Answer session for the community about the schools’ reconfiguration for 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4 at the district office. In case you haven’t heard the news . . . .
On October 22 in a special meeting, the Lake County Board of Education voted on the configuration for Preschool through 6th grade that will be put in place effective for the 2014-2015 school year. The configuration the board decided on is as follows:
- Pitts Elementary will house Preschool and the District Administration Offices.
- West Park Elementary will house Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades.
- Lake County Middle School will house 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades.
- Lake County High School will house 7th – 12th grades.
Input received from employees and community members was considered in the board’s ultimate decision not to implement the 2011 Master Plan as written and to consider an alternate situation. The board and the district expressed their appreciation to everyone who relayed their ideas, concerns and issues with the initial plan.
The school board also decided to postpone any formal renaming of the schools, committing to taking up the topic at a future date. The group also decided that if any renaming is planned, a committee will be formed to advise the board in the decision.
The district will begin transition planning immediately, and will provide employees with the opportunity to give input into staffing plans.
