Residents to Weigh In on Tennessee Creek Project
The San Isabel National Forest, Leadville Ranger District and the White River National Forest, Holy Cross Ranger District, have prepared a draft environmental assessment (EA) for the Tennessee Creek Project and invite public comments. The draft EA is available for viewing online: HERE.
The project is located in the vicinity of Leadville, Colo. Treatments are planned on up to 16,450 acres. Primary treatments include: clearcutting and thinning lodgepole pine trees with mechanized equipment and prescribed fire, removing spruce trees infested with or killed by insects, stream restoration projects in Halfmoon Creek, and various wildlife habitat improvement projects. The proposed action is further described in Chapter 2 of the EA.
The comment period ends 30 days following the publication date of the legal notice on December 19, 2013. The publication date in the newspaper of record is the exclusive means for calculating the comment period.
Only individuals or entities (as defined by 36 CFR 218.2) who submit timely and specific written comments (as defined by 36 CFR 218.2) about this proposed project or activity during this or another public comment period established by the Responsible Official will be eligible to file an objection. Comments should be within the scope of the proposed action, have a direct relationship to the proposed action, and must include supporting reasons for the Responsible Official to consider (36 CFR 218.2).
