Inaugrial Leadville Snowshoe Marathon This Saturday
The first annual Leadville Snowshoe Marathon and Half-Marathon will be held this Saturday, Feb. 1 out the Mt. Massive Golf Course, which also acts as a incredible outdoor recreation area during the winter months.
The marathon (26.2 miles) and half marathon (13.1 miles) is being limited to 50 participants. To ensure your space in this race, please RSVP or call (707) 485-4774. Registration will be Saturday morning of the race, beginning at 6:30 a.m. And the best news? It’s FREE!
Smokey Burgess, Leadville snowshoe racer and local business-guy is the new winter event’s organizer. The course will start and end at Mt. Massive Golf Course and head west towards the Sugar Loaf Dam, then north towards Turquoise Lake. Check out the full course map by connecting with the inaugural event on Facebook.
Racers will be expected to be self-sufficient, although there will be a mini-aid station, according to Burgess in an interview with Leadville Today.Colorado’s second highest peak, Mt Massive (14,439 feet) will provide the backdrop for the inaugural Leadville Snowshoe Marathon (LSM) this Saturday.
