It was great to see the Leadville hospital foundation golf tournament return to Mt Massive Golf Course this year. And the fact that it came back with so much new energy and enthusiasm makes it that much better!

But ultimately, it’s the final results – monies made – for the St. Vincent Hospital Foundation, that put the icing on the cake.  The Thin Air Classic Golf Tournament raised $7,800! Now, that’s SWEET!

It was an outstanding Colorado blue-sky day. The scramble format tournament sold out with 15 teams of 4 players. Most teams consisted of the usual suspects you’d see out at Mt. Massive on any given nice day on the links (translate: any day!)

But the tournament twist came with 4 “celebrity” golfers, including US Deaf Golf Champion Dano Aldaz, and younger Mt. Massive club aficionados Ryan Morrison and Conner Stuller. Even Lake County Commissioner Mike Bordogna got into the “swing” of things being auction-bought by the Adolfson and Peterson Construction team, contractors for the Leadville high school renovation project.

But in the end, it was the veteran, know-that-course-like-the-back-of-my-hand golf team led by Scott Bond who took first place in the 2014 Thin Air Classic. Scott’s team also included Bob Vigil, Dave Flores and Jim Achatz.

“The way our sponsors and community came together made this event a keeper,” said Karen Rinehart, Director for the St. Vincent Hospital Foundation. “We are so thankful to everyone who participated.”

The tournament was hosted by Mt. Massive Golf Course, the highest golf course in North America. Sponsors included, Presenting: Adolfson and Peterson Construction, Quorum Health Resources; Hospitality Tent: TRANE; Watering Hole: Leadville Liquors; Cart Sponsor: Centura Health.

Make sure you sign up for this one early next year; 2015 should be another incredible sell-out!
