Parade of Lights Entrants Have Song in Their Hearts
On December 6, the Leadville/Lake County Chamber of Commerce held its annual Parade of Lights. Sponsored by the Climax Mine, the parade weather was mild and the competition was lively in song, as entrants gave their floats a Christmas carol theme.
The winner of the 2014 Parade of Lights entry contest and recipient of the 1st place trophy goes to the Cornerstone Church with their entry based on “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” 2nd place has been awarded to the First Presbyterian Church for their entry based on “O Come Let Us Adore Him”, and 3rd place goes to Morning Star Child Care for their entry “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.” This year the First Presbyterian Church also had the honor of giving a ride to Santa and Mrs. Claus on the last leg of their journey into Leadville to visit with children.
In addition, two Honorable Mentions and a round of applause this year for Noreen Dewhirst and Jim O’Neal for entering the first parade ‘balloon’ float of Santa suspended high in the air, and for the Shack Club who turned in their electric lights for flaming torches and batons that lit up Harrison Avenue all down the parade route.
