A bounty of blessings at the St. George Church community meals.

According to Rev. Ali Lufkin, recent produce donations made available through generous contributions from two food outlets in Summit County needs to be picked up and brought back to town. The details are below, so please call Ali at 719-486-4731 if you can help.

Last year, the local Safeway store stopped contributing its “overripe” produce to the Leadville community meals program. Fortunately St. George Church was able to secure donations from Target and Whole Foods in neighboring Summit County, however they need for someone to retrieve the produce and bring it back to Leadville. St. George Church is located at the corner of Pine and W. 4th Street in Leadville.

“We are willing to pay for gas, if need be,” stated Rev. Lufkin when she contacted Leadville Today to help get the word out to find some transporters. The requirements would involve a Tuesday morning pick up at Target in Silverthorne between 8 – 9:30 a.m. and at Whole Foods on Fridays before 9 a.m. It should also be noted that starting in May, Whole Foods will expand that contribution to include a Tuesday morning pick-up.

St. George Church’s community meal program provides regular meals to many individuals and families living in Leadville and Lake County. According to St. George Church’s website:

The community meals at St George’s grew out of our desire, as a community of faith, to know our neighbors.  Food is the way we cultivate and celebrate our growing connection.  All are welcome, and we seek to create a table that nourishes through healthy, delicious food, and genuine connection, and the mutual giving and receiving that we find upon meeting one another.  We try, as much as possible, to confuse the issue about who is giving and who is receiving. The meals nourish us all.

If you can’t help out with this request, but still feel moved to help this great Leadville food program, you surely can! Check out the details at: LINK. Or you could always just contact them at : We are located at 200 W 4th Street, PO BOX 243, Leadville, Colorado, 80461.
