Prom Back at Lake County High School After 20 Years
Well, it took 22 years, but Leadville’s annual high school dance of the year is back where it belongs! The 2015 Junior/Senior Prom will be held tonight, April 25 at 7 p.m. at Lake County High School (LCHS) gym for the first time in more than two decades.
Since 1995, the “Dance of the School Year,” has been held at the National Mining Museum Ballroom, formerly the Leadville High School. Update: LCHS alums reported that prior to the Mining Museum, LCHS Prom had held at the Leadville Elks Lodge in 1994 and ’95, so the last LCHS Prom actually held in the high school gym would have been 1993. Fire and Ice Prom is the theme of tonight’s Big Dance, presented by Junior Class of 2016. The meaning behind that theme seems serendipitous as the community looks back on the past 20 years, and the fire and ice challenges the Lake County School District has taken on to bring about necessary changes in school facilities and curriculum.
According to Junior Advisor and Prom Organizer, Ben Wells, tonight will mark the first time since 1995 that The Grand March will be held in the historic school auditorium, starting at 7 p.m. So hold your heads high Panthers! Tonight’s Prom King and Queen will be the first crowned within the hallowed halls of Lake County High School in two decades.
The Prom will be held from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. Parents and community members can enter through the north side of the auditorium starting at 6:30 p.m. The music will be provided by Gravity Play and DJ Turtle. There will also be a professional photographer to capture the moment.
As is standard procedure in today’s world, there is an “After Prom” Casino Night activity in the gym at LCHS. After Prom is open to all 9th – 12th grade students and will be held from 11 p.m. until 2 a.m. Students that bought a Prom ticket get into After Prom for free; all other students it is 5$ at the door. And they will not gain admittance until 11:30 p.m. for all other students. Students that are coming just for the After Prom activity must have a parent sign them in and sign them out.
Have a fun, safe night!
