Twin Lakes Shakes Off Winter, Pass Open Early?
You know that the seasons are starting to shift when winter loosens its grip on southern Lake County and the quaint village of Twin Lakes gets ready to open for the season. And this year, it seems like things could be a bit ahead of schedule.
In fact, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) posted on their Facebook Page yesterday that crews were working to clear Independence Pass:
We have CDOT maintenance crews working from the Aspen side of the pass as well as the Twin Lakes side. Our plan, after some avalanche mitigation, is to have the pass ready to go the week before Memorial Day. Your best bet to stay informed on the official opening is to check back at www.cotrip.org and click on the “Travel Alerts” tab or here on FB.
That possible early opening of Highway 82 has put a buzz in the air down at Twin Lakes Village. It’s opening weekend at The Twin Lakes Inn, reported the popular lodge via social media: Stay, dine and play at the shore of the largest glaciated lakes in Colorado, and at the base of Mt Elbert, Colorado’s tallest 14er. The ice is gone from the lakes. The Colorado and Continental Divide routes are here.
Even though it’ll still be another couple of weeks – at least – until the pass opens up, Twin Lake will be ready for business when it does! Why not head over there before the pass opens, before the crowds and before the traffic!?
May Day! Mark’s Midnight Carnival Show At Scarlet
Tomorrow Friday May 1, Mark’s Midnight Carnival Show will be playing downtown Lead Vegas at The Scarlet Bar. This indie band from Colorado which writes, performs, and release original music is a regional touring act that draws from a diverse list of influences, that crosses over multiple genres.
In the 4 years that they have been together they have performed well over 500 shows, released two studios albums, and put together an extremely polished stage show. They have a unique sound that sets them apart from other indie bands in the Colorado music scene. Often compared to bands such as The Black Keys, Vampire Weekend, Queens of the Stoneage, and Spoon, this band is a must hear for any music lover.
Hospital, Locals Featured in Audi Commercial
Last winter – one of the snowiest ever! – St. Vincent Hospital and some of their employees, as well as other Leadville talent, were filmed for an Audi Quattro commercial.
Appearing somewhat like a short film, the commercial is based on a true story of Audi A4 owner, Dr. Mike who powers through the winter elements to help rescue new-born Dorotea. While winter weather wreaks havoc across the United States, miracles can happen. . . and for some beautiful Leadville talent, it has! So here’s the final result – enjoy! And a hearty “Break A Leg” to all our Lake County actors!
