Leadville Church News: From Knights to Cowboys
In a world where it seems increasingly difficult to get people to keep even the simplest of commitments, yesterday’s celebration of Bill Skala’s 57 years of service to the Leadville Knights of Columbus, seemed even more magnified, as an initiate gathering of Knights and family marked his dedication to Holy Family Parish, and the wider Catholic community.
The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic fraternal service organization. For the Leadville community that means the Knights Council 681, where Skala has served since 1958. During the brief late afternoon celebration, other Knights shared their appreciation and memories. It was clear that Skala had a big influence in recruiting other Knights of Columbus members when the group was asked by raise of hand how many had been encouraged by Bill to join, and then continue to higher degrees of service, and every Knight in the room put up their hand!
There are more than 1.85 million members in nearly 15,000 councils, with nearly 200 councils on college campuses. Membership is limited to “practical” Catholic men aged 18 or older. The Leadville Knights are actively recruiting new members. If you are interested in learning more, contact the parish office at 719-486-1382.
