Voters to Decide Mayor, Hospital Issue in November
Lake County Clerk and Recorder Patty Berger released the official 2015 Ballot yesterday for candidates and issues for the Nov. 3 Election. With no county offices up for re-election, it’s city positions which will be the focus in the 2015 election; that and ballot questions.
Most notable are the candidates for the 4-year term of Mayor of Leadville. The three candidates are Gary Snider, Joe Swyers and Greg Labbe. In addition, Lake County voters will find the “hospital ballot issues” listed under Ballot Question 1A and Ballot Question 5A.
There are three Leadville City Council Seat open, only one has more than one candidate. In Ward 1, Shoshanah Beck will face off against Steven R. Prestash. Ward 2 will seat Jacob Mahrmann, who currently holds the position and is running unopposed. In Ward 3 of Leadville City Council, Greg J. Douglas is running unopposed.
Pam Andrews is running unopposed for the Leadville City Clerk position. The position is being vacated by Joe Swyers, who is term-limited in that position.
The November ballot will also include candidates for the Colorado Mountain College Board (CMC) of Trustees, although only one District No. 2 is opposed, with Leadville incumbent Pat Chlouber running unopposed in the CMC Board of Trustee, District No. 6.

Still Time to Register to Vote in November’s Election!
According to Lake County Clerk and Recorder Patty Berger, anyone wishing to register to vote can do so up to Monday, Oct. 26, 2015 and receive a mail ballot. After the October 26 registration can be done in the Clerk’s Office or on-line. Voting will have to take place at the Voter Service and Polling Center.
Another important note for November’s election is that property owners may request a ballot if the person is registered to vote in Colorado and owns property or is the spouse of someone that owns property in Lake County for the hospital question only.
Candidate’s Night Set for Sept. 28 for November Ballot
On Monday, Sept. 28 there will be a Meet The Candidates Night at the Colorado Mountain College at 5:30 p.m. Local Leadville City Council candidates along with representatives (pro & con) regarding local ballot issues will be participating in a question and answer program.
For those readers who will not be able to attend, Leadville Today will have the evening’s program available on it’s YouTube Channel so that local voters may view the program prior to the Tuesday, Nov. 3 election.
