Turquoise Lake Road Closed (to cars)  for The Season

It's that time of year! The Turquoise Lake Road has been closed for the season. While someof the road stretches close to the dam may appear somewhat clear. the backend of the loop road has up to 18 inches of snow on it after recent storms. During the winter, this road is not plowed, but is still a popular throughfare for cross country skiers, snowshoers and snowmobilers.

The Alpine Orchestra’s annual fall concert returns this Friday, Nov. 20, at a new location. As the first stop on their fall concert series, “Music, By George!”, the Alpine Orchestra hits the gorgeous Lake County High School Auditorium, at 7:30 p.m. The concert included selections from the works of four George’s covering three centuries and three countries, including:

  • Medleys from the songbooks of American composers George Gershwin and George M. Cohan (old broadway tunes like “Rhapsody in Blue” and “Yankee Doodle Dandy.”)
  • “1st Suite from the Opera ‘Carmen'” by Georges Bizet
  • “Royal Fireworks Music” by George Handel

The Alpine Orchestra has been serving and performing for the upper Arkansas Valley for 24 years. Conducted by Beth Steele in her second year, this concert is offered free of charge to families of all size and age, with donations happily accepted to help defray expense. The fall series continues in Salida at the SteamPlant Theater, November 21, and in Buena Vista at Clear View Community Church, November 22. For more about The Alpine Orchestra, visit their website or facebook page.

Brennan Ruegg is heading into his second Colorado winter, looking forward to hitting the green runs.
