Guess Who’s Coming to Town? Santa in The Cloud City

by Brennan Ruegg, Leadville Today contributor

Leadville’s Parade of Lights returns this Saturday, Dec. 5. Making a special appearance in the Cloud City festivities will be Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus who will be flying into the Lake County Airport to join the procession down historic Harrison Avenue.

Santa rode in the parade on the First Presbyterian Church's float, based on the Christmas carol, “O Come Let Us Adore Him” took second place in the 2014 Parade of Lights, sponsored by the Climax Mine.

The parade begins at 5:30 p.m., starting in front of the Mining Museum and ending at the courthouse where Mr. and Mrs. Claus will visit with the children, no doubt bestowing sweets and taking kind requests.

This year’s parade theme is “The Season on Screen,” inviting entrants to design a float inspired by beloved Christmas shows and movies. Trophies to the top three floats that display outstanding creativity, enthusiasm, and representation of the theme.

A Leadville tradition that rings in the most wonderful time of the year, the Parade of Lights is organized by the chamber, and is sure to be another exuberant display of Leadville’s spirit and good will.

So bundle up the kids and follow the sound of silver bells down on historic Harrison Ave!
