Tritz on Climax: Mark Calendar for Next Wednesday

Leadville native Howard Tritz and Lake County Librarian Janice Fox will be presenting a photo slideshow about the Climax Mine this week at the Lake County Public Library.

Library_ClimaxSponsored by the Friends of the Library, the program will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 27, from 6:30 – 8 p.m.

Tritz started at the Climax Mine in 1961 as a laborer in the mill, but his college education allowed him to be enrolled in a training program for shift boss. He did that for seven years, and then became foreman of the mill, where he worked for many years. His Climax career culminated as the Mill Superintendent, that is, prior to the big layoffs in 1982.  In 1987 Tritz took early retirement, “a sweet deal many could not resist.”

Janice Fox works at the Lake County Public Library as the Systems Administrator and is often the first step in anyone researching Leadville and Lake County history. She is seen as one of the most knowledgeable local historians and maintains the Colorado Mountain History Collection.

This dynamic duo should provide quite an entertaining and informative presentation. So plan on attending this Wednesday, Jan. 27 . The program will be held at the Lake County Public Library, 1115 Harrison Avenue in Leadville.
