Fire Claims Life of Leadville Resident on Friday
On Friday, Feb 5, 2016, at 1 p.m. the Leadville/Lake County Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at Mountain Valley Estates mobile home park located at 749 Highway 91 unit #12. This complex is formerly known as the Village at East Fork, off Highway 91 north en route to Fremont Pass.
During the fire mitigation, firefighters discovered a deceased person in the residence. Cause of death and identification of the adult male is undetermined at this time.
Further investigations by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Lake County Fire Marshal, Coroner’s Office and Lake County Sheriff’s Office will continue on Saturday. At this time, questions can be directed to Undersheriff Mendoza at 719-486-1249.
Fans Gather In Leadville To Cheer on Denver Broncos
Have you heard? There’s a BIG GAME being played tomorrow Sunday, Feb. 7. And of course there are plenty of football-loving fans in Leadville – or maybe visiting guests are looking for a place to catch all the action.

The Pastime Bar & Café will be resurrecting an old tradition with their Super Party this Sunday! Bar and kitchen opens at 12 noon and they’ll be serving up some of Nate’s famous BBQ until 8 p.m.
Come, cheer on the Broncos, with some food and drink specials! And of course, the ever-popular FREE jello shots (21+) when Broncos score. The Pastime is only bar in town serving full menu, full bar on Game Day! Watch the Broncos play on 3 TVs. The Pastime Bar & Café is located at 120 West 2nd Street – the last existing saloon on old State Street, Leadville’s red light district.
Periodic Brewing, 115 E. 7th Street – Leadville’s new brew pub invites folks to join them for THE BIG GAME! There’s 4 Big Screen TVs there for your viewing pleasure. Come early to get a seat – opening at noon. Every time the Broncos score a touchdown you get a FREE 4oz TASTER of Pb beer, only during the game. If you can’t join them, remember they’ve got growlers-to-go! They have a new limited menu of snacks and pub fare. Go Broncos!
The Manhattan Bar – located in downtown Leadville at the corner of 7th and historic Harrison Avenue. They’ll be hosting their annual Wild Game Potluck for Super Sunday! So pull some of that fall harvest out of your freezer and cook something up , or just join the fun. They will be raffling off a bud light recliner now THAT’S something that would look nice in any Leadville home! Tickets are a buck a piece or 6 for $5. Winner announced at the end of the game. You can also find your jello-shots with Bronco scores and some PBR schwag giveaways throughout the game.
Meanwhile, just a few blocks south, another corner bar will be throwing a Super Pizza Party. The Scarlet Bar (4th and Harrison) is teaming up with High Mountain Pies in Leadville to bring you that all-American duo of beer and pizza! They will be drawing for some great half time and finale prizes, along with lots of door prizes. Pizza, beer and football, sounds like fun!
