Arts Coalition to Unveil Latest Mural During Ski Joring
On Saturday, March 5, the Leadville Arts Coalition (LAC) will unveil their latest Leadville mural, a tribute to Leadville’s downtown winter celebration: ski joring. The unveiling takes place at 11:30 a.m. on the corner of Harrison Avenue and W. 6th Street at the Harperrose Gallery and Goods on the side of the building where the mural has installed earlier this week.
As part of the ceremony, building owner Bill Comcowich will introduce local artist and muralist, Lexie Palmore who created this mural after successful fund raising efforts that began in July 2014. Over twenty-five local artists donated artwork for a special silent auction with proceeds going towards this mural. The Leadville/Lake County art community supported this project from the start. Leadville Ski Joring contributed the funding for the copper plaque that explains ski joring to those who may not be familiar with the sport.
This ski joring mural marks the third Harrison Avenue mural Palmore designed and painted. Other examples include the historically themed PBR mural at the Scarlet Bar, and the 10th Mountain Division mural on the front of Peoples Bank.
Special thanks to Mill Creek Carpentry who contributed by hanging the mural for LAC, and getting it ready for the unveiling.
