Now that most Lake County residents have cycled through the wood-burning season as the warmer weather moves in, that doesn’t mean that wood chopping has ceased or is ever far from your mind when you live at 10,200 feet and rely on this fuel as a primary heating and yes, at times cooking source.

To that end, a reminder that firewood permits are now on-sale at the Leadville Ranger District. There is a 3 cord minimum  and a 10 cord maximum, with each cord costing $10. They will sell these permits until November 15, 2016, and all firewood cutting areas will be closed November 30, 2016, due to Big Game Winter Range restriction or when roads become impassable due to snow.

Permits can be purchased at the Leadville Ranger Office on 810 Front St, Leadville, CO 80461 during normal business hours (8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.). Questions? Call. 719-486-0749Spac_50
