Happy Independence Day From America’s Highest City!
The People In Your Neighborhood, In The 80461 Ville
“How would you like to meet some of the people around your neighborhood today?” asks Sesame Street’s Bob McGrath as his lead into a popular 1970s childhood songs that can easily become today’s earworm.
“Oh, who are the people in your neighborhood, the people that you meet when you’re walking down the street, the people that you meet each day!”
In a small mountain community like Leadville, most people are just a few doors away, a child’s school chum removed or a work-with-em-friend somehow related as neighbors. So it’s certainly worth noting Leonard Ortega’s retirement from the United State Post Office last Thursday, June 30.
Ortega was born and raised in Leadville, which alone would make him a worthy letter carrier, especially up on the East Side (rules!) In fact, 18 of his 20 years as a postal employee were spent right here in good old 80461.
So all the best to you, Mr. Ortega and should your leisure time include travel, drop a note or post card to your friends along the route in Leadville Today
