Cloud City Challenge MTB Report

By Coach Bruce Kelly, Leadville Racing

The second race in the Colorado High School mountain bike series took place Sunday, Sept. 10 on the CMC Timberline campus. After a slow start to the season at the Frisco Roundup two weeks ago, the Leadville Racing High School Mountain Bike Team rebounded with a strong performance on their home course. After finishing 27th out of 31 teams at Frisco, the team came back and finished a very respectable 9th.

Individually the team was lead by seniors Bryahan Reveles and Caroline Benney! Reveles racing in the deep and talented boys varsity field, took his 33rd place finish in Frisco and improved 16 places to 17th overall! Benney in her first high school race in Frisco, raced in the girls JV division finishing an excellent 9th out of 48. In Leadville, she moved up to race in the very competitive varsity field and showed her fitness finishing 8th overall. Matt Koch racing in the boys sophomore division continued his consistent performance finishing 36th out of 115.

Maybe the most impressive performance of the week end came from Maja Tinstedt, Stephanie Reveles, and Nayelli Gonzales. All three girls were doing their first mountain bike race and racing in the very competitive girls JV division. All three finished with respectable times and are looking forward to even better results in the races to come. The next race in the series is Sunday, Sept. 24 in Granby.
