Action-Packed Saturday in Leadville Today
It’s one of those Saturdays where there is A LOT going on in Leadville Today! Start the morning off right, from 8 – 11 a.m. with the Fall Colors Fly-In/Drive-In Pancake Breakfast at the Leadville Airport. It’s not every day you get a close up look, at the world of aviation at North America’s Highest Airport. And the grub is pretty good at $6/plate, prepared and served by the Airport and Public Works crews. STORY.
By now, if you haven’t heard about the St. Patrick’s Day Practice Parade and the Fiesta In The Clouds celebration starting at 11 a.m. on historic Harrison Avenue, then you definitely DO NOT have your head in The Cloud City! In case you missed it: Slainte! Y Salud! STORY.
There are a few other events worth noting, which are also happening in Leadville Today.
September 16 marks week five (of 6) for the Leadville Community Market. This week, the market located in the parking lot of First Mountain Bank in downtown Leadville, will play host to a variety of cultural festivities and performances as the parade and performers stop in.
And while you’re there, please take visit some of the vendors, including: Cookies Altitude, Balance Healing, Treeline Kitchen. Music by the one-and-only Carey Nall from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. , as well as new vendor: Kustom Medal Hangers that will be selling handcrafted hangars and imported items from Guatemala.
A few blocks up and over The Friends of the Lake County Public Library Used Book Sale continues in the 6th St. Gym on Saturday, Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A popular annual event, literary lovers can find everything from used books at only two pounds for a dollar, to CDs, and DVDs.
The Annual Rocky Mountain Family Practice (Dr. Lisa’s Office) will hold its annual Adult/Children Health Fair starting at 8 a.m. in Leadville Today. The health fair gives residents an opportunity to take advantage of low cost blood screening for cholesterol, prostate, thyroid, diabetes, anemia and chemistry.
The event will provide some great health care checks for children, including low cost FLU SHOTS and vaccines (they are also able to bill insurance), dental screenings, fluoride application, including car seat checks, and some fun and games, including a bouncy house & games and a bicycle rodeo!
It will also be a great opportunity to have your child talk to an emergency responder, including the ambulance/fire truck/sheriff’s office/Leadville Police and a visit from the Flight for Life Helicopter. You can find them on front street, adjacent to RMFP at the corner of Us Highway 24 South and McWethy Drive. Look for the “Urgent Care” sign.
