Summer Reading, Programs Available at Library
School is out for summer, but that doesn’t mean that kids shouldn’t keep learning all summer long! Make sure that’s happening in your happy home, by attending this literary event in Leadville Today!
The Kick-Off Party for the Lake County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program will be held from 1 – 3 p.m. today, June 12. This year’s theme is “Libraries Rock,” so expect some lively and educational engagement as students discover what makes the “stacks” so special! Today’s party will also include a family-friendly performance by award-winning songwriter Steve Weeks!
The regular reading program begin Wednesday, June 13 and has something for students at all grade levels from preschoolers through teenagers. There are some great prizes for reading from free food, rock treasures, up to a free train ride for a child and an adult. More details can be found on the library website.
Later this month, things turn to themes of survival as Leadville’s library presents Storyteller Dave Lively’s “Rocky’s West Side Story.” Have you ever wondered what life would be like in the Pioneer Days? Come and find out on Monday, June 20 at 7 p.m. at the Lake County Public Library.
Storyteller Dave Lively takes the audience on “a speedy tour of the recurring themes of survival and success the past 11,000 years in the high isolated mountain valley.” Enjoy stories of human nature encountering Mother Nature and get inspired to preserve the wilderness! Come along as Lively tells the tales of the courage, stamina, and adaptability necessary, as his tales follow the Ute Indians across the Continental Divide in search of a new home.
