Support for Mental Illness Caregivers in Leadville
Researchers know a lot about the effects of caregiving on health and well-being. Often times, caregivers for a member of their family with mental illness are simultaneously juggling work and raising children. It’s one of the main reasons that caregivers are less likely than non-caregivers to practice preventive healthcare and self-care behavior. But still, it’s important to take care of yourself as well.
Fortunately, Lake County residents don’t have to go very far at all to take advantage of a new support system in place for those family and friends who live with and provide additional care for their loved ones suffering from mental illness. Thanks to ongoing support from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) High Country Colorado, people can take advantage of a FREE upcoming Family Support Group in Leadville on Wednesday, March 27, at 6:30 p.m. at the Lake County Public Library (Baby Doe Room).
“This course overall was the single most, without a doubt, helpful and informative thing ever offered in all my years searching for answers,” shared one participant. “It has helped me to understand better and communicate more effectively with my brother.”
The NAMI Family Support Group is a peer-led support group for family members and caregivers of loved ones and individuals living with mental illness. Thousands of families describe the program as life-changing. This group is led by trained facilitators who are also family members and know what it is like to have a loved one living with mental illness.
“The most beneficial thing for me was that I am not alone. I found the NAMI Family Support Group at the time I really needed it!” Now you can too. Text or phone to register or for more information 970-471-5926.

Leadville Hospital Raises Funds with Land Raffle
People who are willing to take a chance, roll the dice, or play the odds will want to log-on to ColoradoLandRush.com. A $75 investment could win you some valuable land in southern Lake County! Plus you’ll be helping to purchase a new piece of medical equipment for the Leadville hospital.
The St. Vincent Hospital Foundation board of directors has just opened their 2019 land raffle and the prize is Lake County land. The parcel to be raffled is approximately ½ acre. It is located at 795 Juniper Drive in Pan Ark Estates in Twin Lakes, Colorado.
Proceeds from the raffle will go primarily toward a new CT scanner for St. Vincent Hospital in Leadville. While many readers may know, a computerized tomography (CT) scan combines a series of X-ray images taken from different angles around your body and uses computer processing to create cross-sectional images (slices) of the bones, blood vessels and soft tissues inside your body (Mayo Clinic.). CT scan images provide more-detailed information than plain X-rays do. This is an important piece of equipment when assessing a patient’s initial condition, especially in emergency visits. The cost of the new CT scanner is $375,000.
“We feel lucky to have this parcel of land to raffle in this competitive real estate market. The raffle is a great opportunity for us to support the programs and services of St. Vincent Hospital and share the beauty of the area we call home,” commented Bob Smith, St. Vincent Hospital Foundation Chairman.
