Registration for the iconic Leadville Trail 100 Run—known as the “Race Across the Sky”—opened at midnight on January 1 and sold out within two days. Organizers intentionally reduced the field by a few hundred spots this year to ease pressure on the course and aid stations.
“The 2014 LT100 Run has reached capacity,” the Leadville Race Series announced on its Facebook page. “We’ve limited the runner count compared to last year. All other run events remain open, and Leadman/Leadwoman entries are still available.”
Last year more than 900 athletes tackled the 100-mile loop through rugged, high-altitude terrain. In response to concerns about overcrowding and logistical bottlenecks, this year’s event will include additional shuttles to Twin Lakes, better parking access at Winfield, and improved aid-station management.
