Cyclists Conquer Swan River Rampage Mountain Bike Race

Breckenridge, CO – The Summit Mountain Challenge race series made its much-anticipated return to the top of Tiger Road on June 25, 2025, for the Swan River Rampage. This event, hosted out of the Good Times Adventures parking lot, welcomed a diverse group of mountain biking enthusiasts for an exciting evening of racing amid ominous rain clouds overhead.

Men’s Pro/Open Race Highlights

As competitors prepared for the challenging 13.1-mile course, it quickly became apparent that New Zealand’s Caleb Bottcher, representing Yeti Cycles and other sponsors, was in a league of his own. Bottcher’s impressive performance saw him finish the race in just 56 minutes, well ahead of the competition. Following him were Ryan Graber from Canon City in second place (59:05) and Nathaniel Vacura from Arvada in third (59:17). Breckenridge’s own Taylor Shelden claimed a commendable fourth place with a time of 59:21.

Women’s Pro/Open Race

In the women’s category, Aila Harmala from Summit County was crowned the champion with a time of 1:26:24. Notably, Harmala was the sole competitor in the pro/open division, showcasing her skills without any peer pressure.

Expert Men’s Races

The expert men’s division showcased strong performances, particularly from two Summit County locals. Jackson Barker of Dillon took first in the men aged 16-39 with a finish time of 1:01:58. He was closely pursued by teammate Tony Tull (1:05:53) and Michael Hand (1:06:53). In the 40-49 age group, Joseph Glass from Manitou Springs emerged victorious, completing the race in 1:01:58.

Women’s Sport Division

In the women’s sport category for ages 16 and over, four Breckenridge residents dominated. Michelle Tennant secured first place (1:34:32), followed by Brittany Krieger (1:38:50) and Courtney Shelden (1:40:36). Julianna Hughes finished fourth with a time of 1:41:23.

Junior Races

As the long-course cyclists cleared, the junior racers took to the 4.8-mile course with enthusiasm. In the boys 11-12 race, Gabe Loomis from Breckenridge finished first with a time of 22:59, followed closely by teammate Miles Drumwright (24:41) and Oliver Gervais (24:44). The girls 11-12 champion was Nellie Greenwood, who completed her race in 29:45.

The junior division continued to showcase fierce competition, with Team Summit proving its strength across various categories, leading to an exciting night filled with impressive athleticism and local pride.

Looking ahead, the Summit Mountain Challenge series will take a short break during the Fourth of July festivities, with the next event, the Firecracker 50 mountain bike race, scheduled for July 4.
