Lake County High School art teacher Erin Farrow is celebrating her students’ success: junior Jessica Jardee earned second place for “Conversations Between Worlds,” and eighth-grader Amber Aguilera captured third for “Free,” in Colorado Mountain College’s Common Reader Art Contest. Open to creatives across the mountain region, this year’s theme—“The Wild West: Balancing Development, Conservation, and Ethics”—demanded works with strong concept, layered meaning, visual impact, and thoughtful composition. Jardee’s award came with a $150 prize, and Aguilera took home $100.
Greater Heights Academy Presents Winter Recital
On Thursday, December 17, students at Greater Heights Academy will fill the Mountain Crest Baptist Church (1600 Harrison Avenue) with seasonal music and art. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the musical program starts at 6 p.m.—an opportunity to support young performers and celebrate the holidays.
West Park Elementary Hosts Generous Food Drive
Kindergartners at West Park Elementary have been learning about community needs, and they put lessons into action by collecting 680 non-perishable items for St. George’s Food Bank of the Rockies. Mrs. Allen’s first-grade class led the effort with 143 donations, followed by Mrs. Mulcey’s kindergarten with 91, and Ms. Ridgway’s kindergarten with 88.
Join the EL Celebration of Learning on December 16
West Park Elementary invites families to its first EL Celebration of Learning on Wednesday, December 16, from 5:30 – 7 p.m. in the school gym. Kindergarten through second-grade students will showcase their published writing, with select authors reading aloud, alongside a gallery of their artwork. All community members are welcome to attend.
